Aroids It's time to Learn

THE REPOTTING CO IS COMING TO TREVALLAN

If you own a Monstera, Philodendron, Pothos or one of the many other beautiful aroids we all seem to collect… this workshop is for you.

Because buying the plant is usually the easy part.

Then it starts growing and the questions start flowing!

Do I repot it?
Does it need a bigger pot?
What potting mix should I actually be using?
Why are people putting them on moss poles?
How do I attach it without damaging it?
What do I fertilise it with?
And why does everyone else’s Monstera seem to be producing enormous leaves while mine is just… existing?

I’ve invited Carryn from The Repotting Co to Trevallan to do what she does best — talk AROIDS!

And this one is HANDS ON.

What will we be doing?

Over two hours, Carryn will demonstrate exactly how to make a moss pole from scratch, talking you through the materials she uses, how she constructs it and, importantly, why.

Then it’s your turn to get your hands dirty.

Each participant will receive:

  • An aroid plant

  • A pot

  • A pre-made moss pole

  • Potting mix

Then, with Carryn guiding you through the process, you’ll repot your new aroid yourself, position the moss pole correctly and learn how to attach and train your plant onto its new support.

And yes, your newly repotted aroid, pot and moss pole all come home with you!

But this workshop isn’t just about putting a plant in a new pot.

Carryn will explain the why behind what you’re doing, so you can take that knowledge home and use it on the rest of your collection.

What will you learn?

We’ll talk about:

  • How aroids actually grow

  • Why climbing aroids benefit from vertical support

  • How to make a moss pole and which materials to use

  • Choosing the right pot and knowing when to repot

  • What makes a good aroid potting mix

  • Root health, drainage and aeration

  • Watering and fertilising

  • How to correctly position your moss pole

  • How to attach and train your plant

  • Ongoing care once you get it home

So rather than simply watching someone repot a plant, you’ll see how it’s done, understand why it’s done that way and then do it yourself with Carryn there to guide you.

You’ll leave with your newly repotted aroid AND the knowledge and confidence to go home and tackle the rest of your collection.

This will be a small, two-hour hands-on workshop limited to just 8 people, so Carryn can actually work with you, answer your questions and guide you through the process.

Come prepared to get your hands dirty.

And finally understand what your aroid has been trying to tell you.

About the Facilitator

So, who is Carryn?

Carryn is the owner and founder of The Repotting Co, a Brisbane-based business specialising in repotting, houseplant care and custom potting mixes.

What I particularly love about Carryn is that her knowledge has been developed growing plants in the same conditions most of us are dealing with — our homes.

Not a greenhouse with perfect humidity, perfect light and perfect temperatures.

Real houses. Real patios. Real plants. And all the problems that come with them.

She has spent years researching, experimenting and refining how she grows her own collection, particularly aroids, and now helps other plant lovers understand how to get their plants thriving too.

And now she’s bringing all of that knowledge to Trevallan.
