A Conversation on Climate and Energy with Dr John Price & Dr Wendell Porter

At a time when the climate conversation can feel noisy, confusing, or even paralysing, this event brings together two thoughtful voices to cut through the clutter and reconnect us with what really matters and what’s possible.

Dr John Price, retired physician and author, has spent recent years deep-diving into the science behind our changing climate. In this engaging, interactive session, John will explore the questions many of us hold but rarely get clear answers to:

  • Why has the climate always changed, but why now so rapidly?

  • What kind of problem is climate change really?

  • How do we know this isn’t simply another natural cycle?

  • What does it mean to be an active citizen when facing such a global issue?

Building on this foundation, Dr Wendell Porter, Senior Lecturer in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Florida, will shift the focus from “why” to “how”. How we power our lives, and how those choices shape the future. With decades of experience helping communities and industries understand and adapt to changing energy needs, Wendell brings clarity and practicality to a complex topic.

He’ll begin with an introduction to sustainable energy. What it really means, why it matters, and how technologies like solar, wind, and energy storage are transforming the way we think about power, he’ll bring it close to home, focusing on households and everyday life:

  • How can a home become more energy-efficient?

  • Which investments make the biggest difference?

  • How do you cut through the jargon to make informed choices, from appliances to rooftop solar?

Together, John and Wendell will guide an open, discussion-style session where questions are welcomed throughout. Expect an event that evolves with its audience, where curiosity leads the way and no question is too small.

About the Speakers

Dr John Price is a retired physician who, in his own words, "used to spend most days talking with people about what’s gone wrong, and what might help." After retirement, he turned his attention to another critical issue: the health of the planet. Driven by deep concern for future generations, John immersed himself in climate science and now dedicates his time to helping others understand what the experts already know. His approach is conversational and clear, cutting through jargon to help everyday people make sense of the climate crisis and feel empowered to respond. He’s the author of The Climate for Change and the voice behind www.grandkidzfuture.com, a website dedicated to climate literacy and intergenerational responsibility.

Dr Wendell Porter is a Senior Lecturer and Undergraduate Coordinator in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Florida, where he specialised in sustainable construction and energy efficiency. With a career spent exploring how buildings and agricultural structures can conserve resources and perform in challenging climates, Wendell combined technical expertise with an engaging, down-to-earth teaching style. His work has focused on “green” building practices, heat and mass transfer, and the idea that smarter design can save both energy and money.
